Cutting Off Ears
I invite you to read the account of Jesus being arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane in John 18. As Peter was swinging the sword in the garden, do you think he was aiming for Malchus’ ear?
So often we can swing the sword ourselves with a desire to pierce the heart, but all we end up doing is cutting off ears. “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). Paul adds in Ephesians 4:15 that we are to speak the truth in love.
