Faithfulness

When you hear the word "faithfulness," what other words do you think of? Do the words: righteousness, honor, discipline, love, trust, gratitude, thankfulness, or courage come to mind? Lamentations 3:19-26 is a good reference point for all these words and more. We all go through struggles and can feel the weight of life bearing down on our hearts. It is as if our very soul and emotions are bowing down and being slowly crushed by all this “pressure.” But as these verses point out, we as Christians have the best way to overcome this: God! If we keep Him and His commandments to the very fiber of our being, then when we feel pressured, we will remember His steadfast love and mercy. We will then remember what it is like to be thankful for having the weight of the world lifted from our spirit and to have the courage to pass on God’s voice of hope to others.

While watching a movie, have you ever found yourself talking to (or screaming at) the tv screen trying to give the characters hope or insight for their problem? Then, once the characters move past the problem and acknowledge they are all okay and had no need to worry in the first place, we are all sitting there thinking, “DUH!” Now think of God as the All-Knowing Viewer who has seen the movie of your life from beginning to end. We as characters face struggles that in the moment seem to last forever and take away our hope. It stinks. But, unlike the characters we watch on TV, God in His almighty wisdom has made a way to communicate to us and us to Him. He has given us His Word to give us hope and guide us out of tense situations. In combination He has granted us the power of prayer to restore our confidence in His love. With these resources given to us by THE all-knowing God, we can conquer death itself! As we go throughout our days and weeks, let us remember the tools and gifts God gave us at our disposal. So that way, when the world seems to have no hope, we can project God’s voice and be the hope!
