God’s Precious Child

Moses’ mother, Jochebed, is a righteous example of motherhood because she recognized her son’s value to God. At the time Moses was born, the Pharaoh had decreed that every male baby born to the Hebrews would be thrown into the Nile River to die. Jochebed objected to killing baby Moses because she served God more than Pharaoh. For three months she hid Moses at home and kept him safe. When circumstances meant that baby Moses could no longer hide at home she placed him in a basket and concealed him among the reeds of the Nile. At this time, Pharoah’s daughter went to bathe in the Nile and discovered Moses. Pharoah’s daughter took pity on this beautiful baby and decided to raise him after he was weaned from his mother. Even though Moses was raised Egyptian, he continued to carry on Jochebed’s devotion to God and His people.

Each person is a precious child of God’s because they are created in His image. Therefore, when you are born you are innocent, blameless, and pleasing in His eyes. However, as you grow up, the world will try its hardest to separate you from God by tempting you to sin. Since God’s children are precious to Him, He enacted a plan to eternally keep you in His light. John 3:16-17 reads, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

God sacrificed His only son, Jesus Christ, so that you have the opportunity to choose your eternal inheritance as Moses did. Hebrews 11:24-26 reads, “By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.” Moses ultimately recognized his eternal value as a child of God. When God’s children accept Him in baptism and put their former sinful lives behind them, He will restore their righteous image (Eph. 4:22-24). Jesus Christ tells you, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me.” (Matthew 18:3-5) You are God’s precious child and if you choose Him, He will keep you safe forever under His wing.
